The End-on-End Dress Shirt
End-on-end is generally considered to be its own fabric, despite sharing close ties with broadcloth and chambray, both of which feature the same plain weave. The difference lies in thread thickness and colour.
End-on-end is a very lightweight fabric and one that introduces a subtle contrast by intertwining white with another colour (blue being the most popular choice.) Because of its light weight, end-on-end makes an ideal fabric for a summer dress shirt. You’ll typically find this style of shirt with a very thin construction and a high thread count, although it’s not uncommon to see a thread count at the opposite end of the spectrum.
Visually, end-on-end turns up the charm as the eye draws nearer. The use of intersecting white and coloured threads creates a subtle effect that stops well short of being distracting or flamboyant. It simply livens up what would otherwise appear as a solid field of colour, as end-on-end dress shirts do from afar.
